What is 3CCT vs 5CCT ？

As more and more LED lights tend to be made CCT adjustable in market, some customer might notice there are 3CCT tunable, 4CCT tunable or even 5CCT tunable light fixtures poping out, so what does it mean by 3CCT VS 5CCT ?

3CCT means there are 3 CCT options for LED light fixture control, you can turn to variable light color  by switching to different kelvin mode set by the factory.

Generally, factory would try to cover light colors from warm to cool white for different applications, but this may vary a little bit:

Some makes from warm white(3000K) to daylight white(5000K), e.g. 3000K/4000K/5000K tunable;

Some from natural white(4000K) to cool white(6500K), 4000K/5000K/6500K tunable.

Therefore, if you find a light 3CCT tunable, you’d better to look at their kelvin options in product description and see if it works for you.

5CCT means there are 5 CCT options, which has more light colors versas 3CCT, therefore, its cost is higher of course. It might be 3000K/3500K/4000K/4500K/5000K or 3000K/3500K/4000K/5000K/6000K.

However, 5CCT is less commonly seen than 3CCT, as most factories think 3CCT or 4CCT is enough for general use, no need to add up the cost and lower the price competitiveness.

You need to check its kelvin range when you decide to buy 5CCT tunable light fixtures.

In the past, all LED fixtures and LED bulbs are single CCT, you cannot change it.  You can easily identify its light color when you look at the chip color, you can judge it warm color if it looks orange, and cool if looks yellowish.

This is the same to wattage also, over the last decades, all LED light and light fixtures are single watt.

Nowadays in 2023, things have changed, more and more manufacturers begin to make the LED lights CCT selectable or power adjustbable or have both, which not only enable customer especially the end user, to have more color choice if they don’t know what CCT means and how it looks like, but also help the LED supplier or light store owner to simplify their SKU numbers and reduce the capital occupation.

Another benefit of  CCT tunable light fixture is that, if a project require different color temperatures for different spaces, you can ask the supplier to make CCT adjustable version, then you don’t have to distinguish them when you make purchase, that would free you from the complicated detailed work and make everything easy.

So far, the LED pane light, LED linear strip light, LED linear high bay, LED flood light, LED wall pack, LED post top light, LED canopy light are CCT tunable or wattage selectable, therefore, it would be a trending for all lights.
